Fire at a metal stamping factory prompted a vigorous response from the Sheboygan Fire Department on Tuesday, which quickly stopped the spread of the blaze.

The fire struck HTT World Stamping at 1828 Oakland Avenue at around 1 p.m. Nine SFD units responded to the report of an active fire in the welding area where heavy smoke and fire emerging from a dust collector unit greeted the first units on the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished, preventing it from spreading to any other equipment. Crews conducted ventilation and assisted with salvage until around 3 p.m.

A hot ember from welding was blamed for starting the fire, which caused between 15-20 thousand dollars damage.

The Sheboygan Fire Department is reminding both residential and commercial properties to have evacuation plans and meeting spots in place before the need arises.
