Hammoud chairs Goodfellows 100th anniversary party; 50 Amp Fuse to play event

The Dearborn Goodfellows will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer

The Dearborn Goodfellows will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer with a four-hour concert from Detroit's famous 50 Amp Fuse.

The concert is in conjunction with this year's Smoke on the Grill which returns to Ford Field post-pandemic.

"Mayor Abdallah Hammoud graciously accepted the responsibility of chairing the Goodfellow's 100th anniversary party and the Smoke on the Grill," Goodfellow's president, Silvio Davis said. "We are extremely fortunate, but everyone knows the Mayor loves to party."

This year's Smoke on the Grill, Dearborn's family friendly summer picnic, will be a blast. Along with the concert the picnic fare will include hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and all the fixings.

"This summer in Dearborn is going to be awesome," Hammoud said "Along with the big Smoke on the Grill party we are going to be celebrating the Camp Dearborn anniversary, and Homecoming is returning to Ford Field. Dearborn families and children are going to have so much fun with all these activities. I can't wait."

Smoke on the Grill is set for July 22 at Ford Field Park.

"I can't believe how lucky we are to be having 50 Amp Fuse," Davis said. "The band really wants to rock things up knowing that it's the Goodfellow's 100th anniversary party."

"We don't do too many four-hour concerts, but we wanted to put on a big one for Dearborn," Remy Lambert, the leader of the 50 Amp Fuse, said. "Hey, everyone knows all the good things about those Goodfellow cats. Man, they been around a long time, and I know a lot of folks that have been helped by them. Yeah, man there some good dudes there."

Tickets for the Smoke on the Grill are $30 for adults and $10 for children.

"You are not going to get a deal like this anymore," said Goodfellow Treasurer Karl Fava. "A four-hour concert, all the great picnic food you can eat, beer, wine, and a bunch of kid activities. We purposely kept our price low and in fact it is the same as it was four years ago before COVID and now we have 50 Amp Fuse."

The Smoke on the Grill has been an annual fund raiser for the Goodfellows for many years.

"I do not know how they are going to fit all those activities into one evening," Hammoud said, "One thing for sure, that 50 Amp Fuse concert is going to be a good one. I am looking forward to Dearborn businesses supporting this worthy event."

The pandemic curtailed the Smoke for three years, but it is now returning in a big way to celebrate the Goodfellows 100th anniversary.

Local auto dealers including Stanford Chevrolet, LaFontaine, and Westborn Chrysler will be putting on a mini auto show as part of the event. The children's section is going to include a bouncy house, a family friendly photo booth, and a clown.

"It's easy to purchase event tickets," said Goodfellows Director John Thompson. "Just use the QR Code to launch the ticket sales page. Alternatively, just call our Treasurer Karl Fava and he can deliver some to you."

Fava can be reached at 313-587-7952.

Businesses that would like to participate in the event can contact Fava.
